A unique allegorical look at favorite blockbuster movies through the lens of the Christian faith.
Jesus used parables to explain many spiritual truths. Movies are our modern day parables. They can range from explicitly commenting on societal issues; (Schindler’s List, Hidden Figures on racism) to providing allegorical representations of concepts (Chronicles of Narnia, Pilgrim’s Progress on the Christian faith).
Some movies and television shows will present commentary on controversial subject material in the guise of fantasy or science fiction. By taking the context of a situation and placing it in an unreal world, filmmakers are able to provide subliminal messages through the entertainment we consume. Series such as X-Men and Star Trek are well know for providing social commentary in fantastical situations that represent modern day issues.
The Bible says in Romans chapter 2: “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” The entertainment we consume greatly affects are perceptions in life. If we merely consume without taking thought about the messages we are receiving; we risk desensitizing ourselves to the truths of the world we live in. So as Rafiki says to Timon in Lion King 1.5 “You must look beyond what you see.”
